SURVEY RESULTS - PRIMARY RESEARCH

I wrote a survey to find out how much the general public know about the Leveson Inquiry, to help write and design the supplement for the correct target audience. I wanted to aim the supplement at a large audience as the paper is read by many different people. I sent the survey out via Facebook to receive responses from students, aged 18-25, and I emailed a copy of the survey to my dad to forward to his work colleagues, friends and family, ensuring middle aged male and females had input.

The email I sent out, followed by responses is shown below. The information received will be used for the supplement to form a basis of the basic known knowledge, and where to expand from in terms of contents.

Survey Questions:

1.     Are you aware of the Leveson Inquiry?
2.     Are you aware of the phone hacking scandals in recent, and previous news?
3.     If so, which are you aware of? (If possible please give detail on which news story/case)
4.     Do you know of Rupert Murdoch?
5.     What is his job role within the media industry?
6.     Did you ever buy the News of the World?
7.     What is the report based on? (Quick statement)
8.     Did you follow it on the news/newspaper?
9.     What’s your overall opinion of the inquiry and outcome for 2013?

Hi all,
Danielle has asked me if i would forward this questionnaire as it will help here complete a section of her course work for uni.
If you could spare the time could you please read the questionnaire below and return to me at your convenience.
Also for those of you that I have not been in touch with for a while apologies and a happy new year.
Thanks
Tony
I am currently studying BA(Hons) Graphic Design at Leeds College of Art, and for my current brief I am designing a newspaper supplement for the Guardian, informing the general public of the Leveson Inquiry in a simplified, easily understandable infographic aesthetic.
To ensure the publication is successful, I am collecting primary research based on my target audience.
If you could take 5 minutes of your time to complete the short survey below, your response will be of invaluable help.
Many thanks, Danielle Muntyan

2.     Are you aware of the phone hacking scandals in recent, and previous news? yes

7.     What is the report based on? (Quick statement) the report is based on the enquiry into media practice and culture in the context of personal privacy
8.     Did you follow it on the news/newspaper? occasionally
9.     What’s your overall opinion of the inquiry and outcome for 2013? Part 1 reasonably attempted to bridge the voluntary to the statutory without legislation and therefore keeping the mandate for regulation with the press rather than within the criminal law, however the actual extent of its implementation will be the acid test and this point unknown, but will test and validate the response of the media. Part 2 of the report which will investigate much more of the criminal corruption I suspect will delve deeper in response to the less part 1 is seen to be implemented in spirit if not in word.
