STUDIO BRIEF 1 - INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE

Brief:

Using the list of websites provided below, identify and respond to a range of competition briefs that reflect your emerging creative interests and professional ambitions within Graphic Design. Select one main brief that will become the focus of taught sessions and studio workshops for the duration of this brief. In addition, select a number of smaller/quicker briefs that will allow you to demonstrate your ability to develop effective responses, with professionally realistic deadlines.

The 5 Chosen Briefs:

1.  Type Director's Club, Annual Call for Entires.

I have chosen this brief as I want to experiment with type and typography design, and this gives a perfect opportunity  to do so, and to improve my design skills in this area of design.

2. Poster for Hair and Beauty Salon

I have agreed to this brief due to the aesthetic he wants the poster to be designed in. He wants a digital collage based poster, which is what I want to progress towards and work with.

Source: James Pratt (hairdresser),and the owner of a hair salon, 'The Hair Boutique' which requires art work.

The brief is to create a piece of digital artwork, based around cutting edge modern hair, fashion and beauty.

A3 Portrait Format.

Deadline: 1st Janruary 2014.

3. Communication Design

This gives me a chance to showcase a piece of work designed in my first year, or the first semester of level 5. I like that it is an open brief so I can enter a piece of work which I think is designed strongly and has a good concept.

Enter the most prestigious competition for creativity in graphic design, the Communication Arts Design Competition. Any design project printed, published or aired for the first time from May 2013 through May 2014 is eligible. Selected by a jury of leading design professionals, the winning entries will be distributed worldwide in the Communication Arts Design Annual, in print and on the iPad, and on commarts.com, assuring important exposure to the creators of this outstanding work.
Each winning entrant will receive a personalized Award of Excellence, milled from solid aluminum and award certificates issued for firms, individuals and clients.
