Using the list of websites provided below, identify and respond to a range of competition briefs that reflect your emerging creative interests and professional ambitions within Graphic Design. Select one main brief that will become the focus of taught sessions and studio workshops for the duration of this brief. In addition, select a number of smaller/quicker briefs that will allow you to demonstrate your ability to develop effective responses, with professionally realistic deadlines.

1.  Type Director's Club, Annual Call for Entires.

I have chosen this brief as I want to experiment with type and typography design, and this gives a perfect opportunity  to do so, and to improve my design skills in this area of design.

Entries must have been produced or published during 2013. Submissions can be by anyone associated with the entry.


Winning submissions are displayed in seven exhibitions that travel the globe next year, and are also published in a beautiful hardbound annual, Typography 35.

2. Poster for Hair and Beauty Salon

I have agreed to this brief due to the aesthetic he wants the poster to be designed in. He wants a digital collage based poster, which is what I want to progress towards and work with.

Source: James Pratt (hairdresser),and the owner of a hair salon, 'The Hair Boutique' which requires art work.

The brief is to create a piece of digital artwork, based around cutting edge modern hair, fashion and beauty. 

A3 Portrait Format.

3. Communication Design

This gives me a chance to showcase a piece of work designed in my first year, or the first semester of level 5. I like that it is an open brief so I can enter a piece of work which I think is designed strongly and has a good concept.

4. International Digital Art Contest 2013

I wanted to enter a competition I can be really creative with digital collage and illustration, as well as incorporating graphic design. I feel digital collage is one of my strongest design skills and I want to keep improving and show my creative talents.

This competition is hosted by Markus Mueller Digital Artist and Illustrator and his team of art directors, professional graphic designers and digital artists. 
Whether digital paintingcomposing or photoshop 3D art, everything is welcome. Each participant can submit two artworks in digital form with a short description with each image.
Students, amateurs and professional artists take part in the competition. All participating artists retain full copyrights of their images.
Entry fee: 5$/4€ for two images.


This contest is open to all digital artists worldwide, 18 and over.


• 1st Place: 1900 USD (1500 Euro)
• 2nd Place: 700 USD (500 Euro)
• 3rd Place: 300 USD (200 Euro)
Moreover, all winners will get a feature article with artwork and website link for 12 month.

5. Communication Arts Magazine Competition
A chance to enter a piece of work from the second year which I can incorporate with the responsive module. I feel that communication arts is a prestigious competition to enter, also.

Deadline: May 2, 2014.

Entries submitted after that date require a $10 per entry late fee. No entries will be accepted after May 16, 2014.

Enter the most prestigious competition for creativity in graphic design, the Communication Arts Design Competition. Any design project printed, published or aired for the first time from May 2013 through May 2014 is eligible. Selected by a jury of leading design professionals, the winning entries will be distributed worldwide in the Communication Arts Design Annual, in print and on the iPad, and on, assuring important exposure to the creators of this outstanding work.
Each winning entrant will receive a personalized Award of Excellence, milled from solid aluminum and award certificates issued for firms, individuals and clients.
CA’s Award of Excellence is one of the most-coveted awards in the industry. If chosen, winning places you in the highest ranks of your profession. Ask any creative director which competitions rank as the most influential and they'll place Communication Arts at the top of the list.

Any design project printed, published or aired for the first time from May 2013 through May 2014 is eligible. Publication means in a form of mass media exposed to a substantial audience. Entries may originate from any country, but we need an English translation for the jurors. Submission of entries acknowledges the right of Communication Arts to use them for publication and exhibition.
